Michigan Wolverines Football Details
It’s been only two years since Jim Harbaugh took control of the Michigan football program, and the results have been remarkable thus far. The Wolverines have gone 20-6 under Harbaugh, and they have reached some significant bowl games in the process. Michigan defeated Florida in the Citrus Bowl in 2015, and the team then fell to Florida State in a riveting Orange Bowl in 2016. The Wolverines had a number of impressive victories throughout the year, and Harbaugh’s group felt that it had done enough to at least earn the right to fight for the school’s 12th national championship. While that was not the way the story ended last season, that title is very much in play for 2017.
The folks in Ann Arbor should be thrilled about the team that they have on the field this year. Wilton Speight is the name that most people need to familiarize themselves with, as the 6’6’’ junior has all the tools to one day become a legitimate starter under center at the next level. In 2016, Speight threw for 2,538 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions. He picked up some serious big game experience, so he should be even better now that things have slowed down for him. On the defensive side of the field, expect defensive tackle Maurice Hurst to energize The Big House as much as humanly possible (Which is saying a lot, considering Michigan Stadium holds more fans than any other college venue). Last season, Hurst recorded 32 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 12 appearances. He is one of the best defensive linemen in the country and leads a unit that is expected to terrorize opposing offenses all season.
