Antonio Nocerino, an Italian defensive midfielder who has previously played at AC Milan and Juventus, anchors the midfield, with Designated Player Carlos Rivas and new additions Giles Barnes and Will Johnson featuring in more attacking roles. Canadian striker Cyle Larin is one the league’s true young stars, and he has started the campaign off with a bang, scoring three goals in the team’s first two matches.
There was plenty of roster overhaul in the offseason, with the likes of Brek Shea, Kevin Molino, and Julio Baptista departing, but the addition of defenders Jonathan Spector, who had spent his entirely professional career in England up until signing for Orlando City, Donny Toia, and Scott Sutter should keep the backline sturdy. The club has been inconsistent at best on the road in its first two MLS seasons, but it has been solid at home, which this season will be the beautiful soccer-specific Orlando City Stadium in Downtown Orlando.
