Portland Trail Blazers Details

Created in 1970, the Portland Trail Blazers have been bringing basketball to the Pacific Northwest for decades. The team has been largely one of the most competitive in the league during that time frame, with a great home court advantage and some of the more memorable teams in the history of the league living within their history books.

The Trail Blazers' most successful squad was the one that won the 1977 NBA Finals over the Philadelphia 76ers. This golden age of the Trail Blazers was led by the legendary coach Dr. Jack Ramsay, who had a great selection of players at his disposal. Bill Walton served as the top man on that team, with his ability to change the game from the interior setting the tone for the rest of Portland's game plan. Walton, when healthy, was one of the true stars of the league even before making his memorable transition to broadcasting.

There are plenty of other players that stand out in the Trail Blazers history books. Clyde Drexler spent some time with the team as one of the best guards to play the game. And Scottie Pippen joined the Trail Blazers as well after his tenure in Chicago was up. The combination of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum are also on the list of Trail Blazers greats, as the two have combined to compete against some of the best players in NBA history at a high level.

In terms of rivals, the Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers had quite the heated rivalry when both teams were in the postseason in the early 2000s. The Lakers, led by Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, would take on the Trail Blazer teams featuring the likes of Rasheed Wallace, which produced some thrilling basketball games.
