Aussie duo making waves Down Under and around the world (Created February 21, 2013)
There's a duo from Down Under making waves on the electronic music scene, and they call themselves The Presets. Indeed, Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes have been leading an Aussie movement since their debut album, "Beams," bowed in 2005 to huge critical praise. It's been an uphill ride ever since, with these boys making noise wherever they go.
Want to know more about the Presets? Let's your ear conjure up dance-floor friendly sounds that are part cinematic instrumentals, catchy electronic pop and a fair dose of heavy rock. It all started when Hamilton and Moyes were students at Sydney's Conservatorium of Music in the early '90s. Both happened to be studying classical music when they joined the band Prop together, which in turn churned out several albums of experimental music. Nearly all of Australia sat up and took notice.
When Hamilton and Moyes decided to branch away from Prop, they did so under the Presets moniker. A demo release quickly led to a deal with Aussie label Modular, and a first EP they dubbed "Blow Up" had the duo out on the Australian stage circuit. Buzz led to momentum, first through Britain and then straight into the U.S.
The Presets have released a plethora of singles, two EPs and three full studio albums to date. The latest, "Pacifica," was released on September 7, 2012. It features "Youth in Trouble," "Ghosts" and "Promises." The next single, "Fall," will be rolling out in the near future.
The Presets are currently on tour in Australia, with opening acts Parachute Youth and Light Year. The majority of the dates are already sold out.
