San Francisco Giants Details
As the only franchise to have won multiple World Series titles in this decade—and they’ve won three—the San Francisco Giants are unparalleled around Major League Baseball in terms of recent success. With a roster that’s strong from top to bottom, they’re well equipped to build upon that success. It all starts with pitching in the Bay, as the Giants posted the fourth-best team ERA in all of the MLB in 2016. Madison Bumgarner has started at least 31 games for six seasons running now, and he has remarkably kept his ERA under 3.00 in each of the last four—including a career-best 2.74 last season. He didn’t even record the most Wins Above Replacement on his own staff, though, as Johnny Cueto put up a comparable ERA of 2.79 and was third in the NL with 18 wins. The lineup is less electric, but effective nonetheless: Catcher Buster Posey has long been one of the best hitters at his position, and he won his first Gold Glove in 2016. First baseman Brandon Belt and third baseman Eduardo Nunez provide support in the lineup.
In San Francisco since 1958, the Giants have established themselves as one of the most iconic franchises in all of American professional sports. The gorgeous AT&T Park has been their home since 2000, and batters with power to right field have been known to plunk home run balls into McCovey Cove, a portion of the San Francisco Bay named after Giants legend Willie McCovey. Of the franchise’s eight World Series titles, three came in the alternating years of 2010, 2012 and 2014.
