A Cirque du Soleil show is always going to have a whiff of high art to it, but even among the dramatic and theatrical shows that the many troupes under its umbrella Amaluna stands out. Very loosely based on The Tempest, the stage show focuses on an island full of goddesses who have to deal with a storm washing up the island’s first men.

The story is told through a series of stunts and acrobatics, such as: unicycle tricks, Chinese pole work, feats of strength and balance, and human pyramids. In spite of the tradition that classical music must accompany acrobatic shows, Cirque du Soleil brings a modern, all-woman band to this production.
