In a sea of electronic musicians, all touring in the same places and performing at the same festivals, Boulder-based duo Big Gigantic have something that helps them stand out above the rest. Talent? Sure. Bangin’ beats? Of course! And that big, shining saxophone wielded by Dominic Lalli (who also does the production) – well, we think that helps, too.

Known for their high-energy live performances and their jam/jazz-infused tunes, Big Gigantic is one part electronica and one part classical: drummer Jeremy Salken has an extensive background in music and can also play bass, and Lalli holds a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.  The two met as roommates while living in Boulder, CO, and quickly joined creative forces. Now, four years later, you can find them opening up for bands like STS9 and Pretty Lights, and playing at festivals like Bonnaroo and lollapalooza.

While the band has had many high points so far in their short career, they’re quick to cite their favorite moment thus far: “Headlining a sold out Red Rocks show last year,” Lalli told us when we caught up with him via email earlier this week. Seems like a fitting moment for a hometown venue – a venue that they will be making their triumphant return to later this year. Tickets for the September 28 gig are already listed at an average of $148 on the secondary market and are currently selling like hotcakes on SeatGeek.

Don’t live on the West Coast and still want to catch Big G in action? Have no fear! The band will be on the road from July 19 to November 2, performing throughout North America. On August 30 you can catch them at NYC’s Electric Zoo where they will spend time playing, as well as watching: “There are so many great DJs and producers playing EZoo it’s going to be insane,” Lalli said. “We’re honestly just really excited to see all of our friends play.” Among the DJs taking the stage are Avicii, Bassnectar, David Guetta and Tiesto.

Besides their live performances, expect some Big Things coming from Big Gigantic later this year. Despite their busy schedules, the band is still finding time to record new music. “Look for a HUGE release this fall,” said Lalli. “Lots of new Big G material and some very special collaborations.”
