The musical Wicked is kind of like the Frozen of Broadway, and we’re not just saying that because the original cast included Idina Menzel. (Now that we think about it, when are they going to make Frozen for Broadway?) The play, based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, serves as an alternate telling of The Wizard of Oz in which the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch struggle through an unlikely friendship, ultimately leading to the Wicked Witch’s public fall from grace. Since premiering at the Gershwin Theatre in 2003, Wicked has earned a slew of awards and accolades including a Tony for “Best Musical.” It is also the 11th longest-running play in Broadway history.
Caroline Bowman (Elphaba); Kara Lindsay (Glinda); Matt Shingledecker (Fiyero); Robin De Jesus (Boq); Kathy Fitzgerald (Madame Morrible); Kelli Barrett (Nessarose); Tom McGowan (The Wizard); Timothy Britten Parker (Doctor Dillamond)
