Tupac Musical ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’ to Hit Broadway This Spring
Years in the making, the long awaited Tupac Shakur musical, Holler If Ya Hear Me, now has an opening date. Previews will being on May 26 in New York City at the Palace Theatre, and the official run will commence the night of June 19. Songs in the production include Tupac hits like “Keep Ya Head Up,” “Holler If Ya Hear Me,” “California Love,” “Me Against the World” and more, and the show has a reported $8 million budget. The story will not be based on Tupac’s life and 1996 shooting death, however – it is just inspired by his music. The storyline focuses on two poor childhood friends living in the Midwest and struggling to make their dreams happen. Directing Holler If Ya Hear Me is Tony Award-winning Kenny Leon. Tickets will be on sale soon.
Tupac Shakur has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, and he’s ranked by MTV at No. 2 on their list of The Greatest MCs of All Time (Jay-Z came in first). Rolling Stone named Tupac No. 86 on their list of the “Greatest Artists of All Time.” He was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996, succumbing to his wounds six days later.
