There’s nothing messier, or more rewarding, than baking the perfect pie. Except, maybe, the wildly successful musical Waitress which is just as messy and rewarding in its own right. Based on the 2007 indie film of the same name, Waitress the Musical dares ask the question: “what can a pie do?” Well, if you’re Jenna Hunterson–a small town waitress with big dreams–it can change your life completely.
When we first meet Jenna, she’s stuck in an abusive relationship and has just discovered that she is pregnant–unintentionally. As if that wasn’t complicated enough, she begins an affair with her gynecologist. In an effort to escape the current confines of her life, she enters a pie-baking contest in the hope of earning a cash reward.
With music and lyrics by seven-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles (“Fight Song,” “Brave”), it only takes a taste of this musical phenomenon to see why it’s Broadway run has been extended time and time again. It is currently touring nationally and internationally, and its Broadway run is scheduled to end on December 15. Check below for more information.
