Governors Ball has made a few changes to their policies, such as barring unattended minors from the music festival on New York City’s Randall’s Island. But beyond the new rules, there’s plenty to know about who and what can come into the festival, and where and how folks can enter.
There are quite a few things to know before you go to the fest next June.
The Basics
Governors Ball runs from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7. The gates open at 11:45 a.m. each day, and the event is rain or shine.
Getting There
Randall’s Island is centrally located in the middle of the East River and Harlem River between Manhattan and Queens. The festival offers ferries and shuttles to the island. Three-day ferry passes from Manhattan cost $55 or $20 per single-day passes. Three-day shuttle passes from Brooklyn cost $65.
The ferry leaves from the East 35th Street Ferry Landing. Shuttles pick up at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. Alternatively, festival goers can walk across the RFK Bridge to Randall’s Island from either Manhattan or Queens. There is no parking at Governors Ball.
That New Age Policy
Anyone under the age of 18 won’t be allowed in without accompaniment from an adult 21 years of age or older. An adult can be responsible for up to two minors. All ticket holders will be required to show valid ID: that’s a driver’s license, ID card, or passport. Foreign-born should opt for their passport, but if they want to use a driver’s license, they will also need a color copy of their passport.
In a press release, Gov Ball organizers said the move was a way to provide a better overall experience.
“Nothing is more important to us than the quality of the festival experience,” Founders Entertainment’s Tom Russell and Jordan Wolowitz explained. “And the changes we are implementing this year come directly from fan feedback and conversation. We are always listening, always evolving, and always trying to give our fans and our City the best festival they could ask for.”
What You Can Bring
The festival allows blankets, sunscreen, non-professional cameras, 2 sealed plastic water bottles, and a bag. The festival specifies that your bag must be smaller than 16″ x 16″ x 8″ in order to bring it inside the festival.
What You Can’t Bring
The festival will not allow any weapons , fireworks, or drugs. All smoking products are banned, and that includes vapes and e-cigarettes. Outside food is only allowed with a doctors note and coolers or picnic baskets are a no-no.
Glass bottles and outside alcohol will not be allowed. Pets aren’t allowed on the grounds unless they are service animals (and the festival will ask for proof).
