The UK has been keeping one of the best festivals in the world from the USA for over ten years now—Bestival is one of the globe’s best, even earning the award for Best Major Festival at the UK Festival Awards in 2010 and 2012. Turns out that our friends across the pond want to share—founder Rob DaBank has revealed plans to expand the festival to other parts of Europe and—this is the best part—the United States. Bestival has signed a distribution deal to spread Bestival cheer, and, even though there are no specifics yet, we’re very excited. This year’s Bestival takes place at the Isle of Wight from September 4 to 7 with artists like Outkast, Beck, Disclosure, Basement Jaxx, London Grammar, Sam Smith, Jenny Lewis, La Roux, and many, many more. Stay tuned for more details.

The first Bestival was held at Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight in 2004, organized by BBC 1 Radio DJ Rob Da Bank as an off-shoot of his Sunday Best record label and club nights. Why the Isle of Wight? It’s beautiful, sure, but it also holds more carnivals per capita than anywhere else in the UK. 10,000 people attended the first Bestival—in 2010, that number had increased to 55,000. A more family-friendly sister festival, Camp Bestival, was launched in 2008.
