Wanna get funky, New York (well, funkier than usual)? On June 20, you’ll be able to at the 2nd annual NOLAfunk Crawfish & Music Festival. Taking place on perfect-in-summer Governors Island, this festival boasts a “New Orleans Meets New York” feel. This year’s event will be headlined by The James Brown Dance Party (featuring members of Trey Anastasio Band and Pretty Lights live band), PitchBlak Brass Band, and Flow Tribe. The New Orleans Crawfish King, Shaggy, will also be there serving up 5,000 pounds of crawfish for the boil.

So how do you do a crawfish boil? You need a big-ass pot (60 to 80 quarts), a strainer, and a propane heater. Seasonings are also a must, with cayenne pepper, hot sauce, salt, lemons, and bay coming out as top choices. Also on the menu? Corn, new potatoes, onions, garlic, and shrimp. Boil away, dump onto yesterday’s newspaper, and enjoy—and expect to get a little messy.
