Rock in Rio started in Rio de Janeiro in 1985, but it’s just now coming to North America. Rock in Rio USA’s first festival on our continent is all set to take place over two weeks—May 8-9 and May 15-16, 2015—at the City of Rock MGM Resorts Festival Grounds in Las Vegas, NV. The festival has graced stages in Lisbon, Portugal; Madrid, Spain; and, of course, Brazil, but a recent partnership between Rock in Rio and Cirque du Soleil has finally allowed the festival to take place in the U.S. once every two years until 2019. But who’s playing, you ask? The first headliners have been announced, and they include some big ones: Metallica, No Doubt, Deftones, Linkin Park, John Legend, and Taylor Swift. Whoa, right? And more acts are sure to be announced in the coming months. Rock in Rio is considered to be the world’s largest music festival, so you’re going to want to get tickets, and fast. General admission tickets will set you back $298 for a weekend, while VIP seats will cost $498. For more information on ticketing, visit the festival’s website.

Brazilian entrepreneur Roberto Medina dreamed up Rock in Rio, making it a reality in cities all around the world. Rio de Janeiro has hosted five of the festivals (1985, 1991, 2001, 2011, and 2013), while Lisbon has hosted six (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014), and Madrid has held three (2008, 2010), and 2012). 1.5 million people attended the festival’s first editions.
