311 Will Play New Orleans Show on 3/11
Alternative jam rockers 311 have just announced plans for a new album. The new disc (the title has not yet been revealed) is the band’s first independent release since their early days of recording, and predictably it will debut on 3/11. To commemorate the album, 311 will be returning to the Crescent City, aka New Orleans, to play their bi-annual 311 Day concert at the New Orleans Arena. Fun fact: 311 played their first 311 Day concert in New Orleans in 2000, so this is a little trip down memory lane for the band. Tickets for the show are on sale now.
Originally from Omaha, NE, 311 was formed in 1988 by Nick Hexum, Jim Watson, Aaron Wills, and Chad Sexton. In 1992, Doug Martinez joined the band with his turntable, rounding out their genre-busting sound, known for combining elements of that rock, rap, reggae, jazz and funk. 311 has released 10 studio albums, one live album, and four compilation albums, not to mention four EPs and four live DVDs. They’ve sold over 8.5 million records in the United States alone. Their last album, Universal Pulse, was released in 2011.
