Late Friday, Columbia Records announced that Adele is canceling the remainder of her North American tour.  The singer had postponed four shows due to laryngitis and was hoping to return to performing after a quick recovery.  However, according to Columbia’s statement, Adele is still battling the illness and has been advised by her doctors to continue to rest her voice.

Adele is, as of yet,  the most popular music artist of 2011. Her new album “21” has sold 2 million copies in the only 3 months since its debut, and her single “Rolling in the Deep” has been top of the Billboard and iTunes charts for over a month.

Thus, it is no surprise that her North American tour was completely sold out, with average ticket prices for her May 19th show in New York hitting $314.  Fans were willing to pay steep prices in arenas across the country to see the British star in person.  Now many of these fans have been devastated by the news of Adele’s lingering illness.

Columbia Records has stated that the possibility of rescheduling the canceled tour dates is “being investigated”, so stay tuned for news on Adele’s potential return to the US.  Policies for ticket reimbursement can be found, for the most part, on individual venue’s websites.  However, fans are encouraged to hold on to their tickets until the Adele management comes to an agreement with the venues on rescheduled dates.
