Backstreet Boys singer (and cutest member, if we’re being honest) Brian Littrell has set former teenybopper tongues wagging with one short sentence: “We are actually in early talks about maybe doing a world tour together with the Spice Girls.” 90’s group powers, activate! The real draw here is obviously the Spice Girls: they haven’t performed together since their stint at the closing ceremonies at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and they haven’t toured since their 2007 reunion jaunt. Would Posh Spice be on board? BSB has been back on the scene for a while now, touring last summer and just announcing plans for a 2014 tour with Avril Lavigne, as well as a cruise ship one-off called the “Backstreet Boys Cruise” this October. If this news is true, we’ll have to wait a bit for it to come to fruition, but by the pop powers vested in me, I say it will be amazingly worth it.

Backstreet Boys got their start as a project from music impresario Lou Pearlman (who, coincidentally, is now in prison for being the proprietor of a Ponzi scheme). Their third album, 1999’s Millenium, sold 1,134,000 copies in its first week of sales (500,000 of those in the first day), shattering any previous sales records. Spice Girls were also put together, this time by Bob Herbert, Chris Herbert and Lindsey Casbon. They’ve sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling female group of all time.
