Bill Murray ‘New Worlds’ Tour Kicks off This Week
Bill Murray’s first-ever concert tour is slated to kick off in just two days at the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA. Fans that attended Festival Napa Valley back in July got a preview of what to expect from the beloved actor, which includes readings from Whitman to Twain, plus classic Broadway tunes, accompanied by music from cellist Jan Vogler.
Of the upcoming “New Worlds” tour, Murray told the Chicago Tribute: “I sing well enough so people don’t get angry. The melodies are so beautiful, the musicians playing them are so extraordinary, that so far people haven’t jumped out of their seats, yelling ‘Stop that guy — he’s not that good!’”

The beloved Bill Murray is making a foray into live music, having just announced a tour in support of his upcoming debut album.
New Worlds has been in development since 2013, and features the musicianship of cellist Jan Vogler, violinist Mira Wang and pianist Vanessa Perez. While they perform tunes from Bach and Schubert, Murray will read selections from Hemingway, Twain and Whitman. In addition to his spoken word numbers, he’ll also sing songs from West Side Story and Van Morrison.
The album is due out in September, but you can catch a preview on July 20 at this year’s Festival Napa Valley where Murray is scheduled to perform. His full-length tour won’t kick off until October 6 at The Granada in Santa Barbara, CA. Murray will perform at select cities throughout North America, including NYC’s Carnegie Hall on October 16. The final run of shows are slated for early December in California, though venues are still TBD.
