Black Lips Announce Spring North American Tour Dates

Atlanta-based garage rockers Black Lips are tacking on some dates—a lot of dates—to their stint at Austin’s South by Southwest this March. In fact, the boys are launching a full-out North American tour. Kicking off in Pioneertown, CA at Pappy and Harriet’s, Black Lips will continue through Los Angeles, CA; Vancouver, BC; Seattle, WA; Denver, CO; Richmond, VA; Washington, D.C.; New York, NY; Montreal, QC; and Detroit, MI, to name a few. This tour comes in support of the band’s seventh studio album, to be titled Underneath the Rainbow and due out March 18 via Vice Records (lead single “Boys in the Wood” is already out and on the charts). Openers for the tour include The Coathangers and Natural Child, and tickets are on sale now.

Formed in Dunwoody, Georgia, in 1999, Black Lips have been rebelling for a while now. In fact, guitarist Cole Alexander and bassist Jared Swilley were expelled from their high school in the wake of Columbine, regarded as a “subculture danger” to the school. But no matter—the band released their first EP in 2000, with a debut full-length album, Black Lips!, dropping in 2003. In 2002, guitarist Ben Eberbaugh was killed by a drunk driver in a tragic accident just before the band was set to tour. Black Lips carried on, citing that Eberbaugh would have wanted them to go out and play.
