Carrie Underwood is having to alter some of her tour plans due to health issues over the past week. With her December 15 show in Kansas City this past weekend being postponed due to illness, she also announced that her show in Springfield, Illinois would be postponed until May 6, 2013. The aforementioned show in Kansas City has been rescheduled for May 1 of next year as well.

Underwood’s Twitter feed has been keeping fans abreast of tour updates. Check it out here for the latest. Her tour resumes tomorrow night in Memphis at the FedEx Forum with support from Hunter Hayes.

In a kismet meeting of blonde ambition, Carrie Underwood has accepted the role of Maria von Trapp in NBC’s re-imagining of the classic play (or movie, depending on your cultural reference point) The Sound of Music. The live broadcast will air sometime during the holiday season next year, in 2013. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producers of that other NBC musical, the show Smash – which coincidentally stars another American Idol alumna, Katherine McPhee – have been tapped to helm the production.

Said Zadan and Meron in a press release: “Having Carrie Underwood as the star brings [The Sound of Music] to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have. It’s a particular joy to us as producers to see this amazing artist stretch into new territory with this classic musical.”

No specific date has been set, and the news is still too recent for any Carrie-Underwood-in-a-nun’s-habit memes – yet. Look for both in the months ahead.

No, this isn’t a dream – Carrie Underwood has expanded her Blown Away tour into 2013! The country darling, who’s currently touring North America with supporting act Hunter Hayes, will once again hit the road in February following a brief break in January. The new set of dates kicks off on Valentine’s Day in Colorado Springs, CO, and will last through mid-May for a grand total of 40 performances.

Add to those her current spate of 2012 concerts (55 in all), and by the time Underwood takes her final bow in Edmonton, Alberta, next spring, she will have performed over 100 concerts in less than one year. That’s true dedication to her equally devoted fans, who’ve already made the rest of the singer’s Blown Away tour a resounding success.
