New Yorkers were in dire need of a music festival that they could call their own. That is, until Catalpa came to town. In spite of suboptimal meteorological conditions, the festival successfully debuted in the summer of 2012 on Randall’s Island with an extremely diverse lineup of artists and an equally diverse & spectacular menu of side attractions that included things like installation art, pyrotechnics (sadly limited by the rain), obstacle courses, face paint, vodka igloos, silent discos, and a bouncy castle in which festival-goers could elope and have their impromptu marriage officiated by a “pimp” pastor. Even if you had been somehow bored with the artists on stage, the festival planners surely thought of something to grab your attention. Among the most talked-about musical highlights was Snoop Dogg’s set in which he performed the entirety of his quadruple-platinum 1993 album Doggystyle from top to bottom.

Catalpa NYC Music Festival 2013 Dates

Official dates for Catalpa 2013 have not yet been released. However, based on last year’s festival – which spanned Saturday & Sunday July 28-29, 2012 – some festival heads are projecting Saturday & Sunday July 27-28, 2013 as the next festival’s dates. I wouldn’t book a trip on that hunch, but it’s at least as good as any other educated guess at this point.

Catalpa NYC Music Festival 2013 Lineup Rumors

Rumors about artists at the 2013 festival have been hard to come by, but if the composition of last year’s lineup is any indication, then the Catalpa folks are sure to throw in a little something for everyone. 2012 featured a deep mix of acts from all over the musical spectrum – genres like rock, hip-hop/rap, indie, reggae, and electronic – which means that just about any artist could be eligible for inclusion in the 2013 lineup.
