Childish Gambino Coming to an End
In a post-fest interview he went on to explain to Huffington Post:
“I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things and I always had a reason to be punk. Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at ‘Atlanta’ as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio.”
Hopefully this just means the retirement of the Childish Gambino character, and not the end of new music from Glover. For now fans can at least expect one last album, plus some dates supporting Dave Chappelle during his upcoming Radio City Music Hall residency.
After a super successful Pharos Festival and critically acclaimed new album, Childish Gambino fans are eagerly awaiting the artist’s next move. While a Donald Glover hasn’t announced a full 2017 tour, he will be performing at this year’s Governors Ball held at Randall’s Island in NYC. Keep checking back for updates or track him on SeatGeek to get notified when he announces new shows.
Original Post (6/22/16)
The always-inventive Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) has just announced plans for an upcoming album and tour. To debut the new tunes, Glover has put together a three-day concert event he’s calling “Pharos,” which will be held at Joshua Tree, CA, from September 2-4. A full tour is expected to be announced shortly thereafter.
The news comes after the rapper/actor/comedy writer dropped a mystery app called PHAROS Earth, which ended up being a countdown to the release of Pharos details. (In other words, he pulled a Prophets of Rage.)
Pre-sale tickets go on sale June 24 at 12pm ET; general on-sale starts on June 27 at 12pm ET. Checkout the app here.
