Chrissy Hynde Plans Tour For First Solo Album
Believe it or not, Pretenders lead singer Chrissie Hynde has only just released her first solo album. Stockholm hit the shelves (and the web) earlier this year, and she’s finally getting around to touring North America in support of it (her very first solo tour!). She’ll start things off in Toronto, ON at Massey Hall on October 30 before visiting Boston, MA; Red Bank, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; New York, NY (at the Beacon Theatre); Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Akron, OH; Detroit, MI; Houston TX (at the Bayou Music Center); Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; and Santa Barbara, CA. Hynde will close out the tour with a show at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on December 6. Wanna go? A bunch of various presales (Ticketmaster, Chase, etc.) will open on Wednesday, September 10 at 10am, and the general on-sale starts Friday, September 12 at 11am.
Best known for her forty years as the lead singer of the Pretenders, Hynde was born in Akron, OH in 1951. She moved to London in 1973, landing a position at music magazine NME. But it didn’t last, putting her British residency in jeopardy, so much so that she even tried to convince Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten (of the Sex Pistols) to marry her so she could get a work permit! That’s dedication. She met the rest of the Pretenders in the late 1970s, and the rest is history (she doesn’t need a work permit anymore, let’s just say that).
