Formed in Cape Town, South Africa in 2008 by Ninja and Yolandi Visser, Die Antwoord’s (which is Afrikaans for “The Answer”, by the way) music is produced by DJ Hi-Tek. They released their first album, $O$ online for free, attracting international attention for the video for “Enter the Ninja”. Though they were originally signed to Interscope Records, Die Antwoord eventually founded their own label, Zef Recordz, in 2011. It is on this label that their second album, Ten$ion, was released. The duo incorporates elements of zef culture, appropriating out-of-date cultural elements into their style and music.
