The Dixie Chicks have just released their first new song in 14 years, titled “Gaslighter.” The politically-charged track is the first single off their upcoming studio album of the same name. Even though the country duo has been on hiatus for a decade and a half, their newest single is just as catchy, melodic, and edgy as ever.

Dixie Chicks’s lead singer Natalie Maines recently shared her feelings behind writing the group’s upcoming record, Gaslighter.

“I had a lot to say,” expressed Maines in an interview on Spiritualgasm podcast. “Songwriting is really hard for me, and I think for many years, I didn’t want to analyze my life or my relationship. I was just in it and dedicated and devoted, and if I had started writing songs about it…I don’t want to say I was in a ‘survival mode,’ but I was just not ready to open up like that.”

With the release of a new single, upcoming studio album, and return to the music industry, fans have their fingers crossed that The Dixie Chicks will announce a tour this year. While there’s no official news yet, keep an eye on this space for updates.
