DJ Shadow Touring in Support of his ‘Best Of’ Album
One of the forerunners of instrumental hip-hop – we hadn’t known that was a thing, but are very glad we now do – has expanded his successful 2012 tour into 2013. DJ Shadow will continue to perform as part of his All the Basses Covered tour, tacking on more North American dates slated to kick off tomorrow, 4/5. That’s when the artist formerly known as Josh Davis will perform for his fans at the Low End Theater in San Francisco, CA. Afterward, it’s off to the other side of the country for DJ Shadow, and a gig at New York City’s Output. The talented producer will spend the rest of the spring out on the road, bouncing between either coast and bringing his innovative sound to a host of lucky cities in between.
Although he doesn’t have a new record to promote – his last effort, The Less You Know, the Better, dropped in 2011 – DJ Shadow has 17 years’ worth of material and five albums from which to cull. His impressive discography includes the groundbreaking Enduring…, which was the first album ever recorded to exclusively use sampled sounds. It was also the DJ’s very first record out of the gate. Joshua Paul Davis, aka DJ Shadow, has announced tour dates slated for this December. The eight-day stint will be in support of his recent releases: four collections of his finest recordings entitled Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow. The tour sees the long-time hip-hop DJ/producer in major cities throughout the United States, and kicks off on December 6 in Madison, WI. He’ll also make stops in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, New Orleans, and Miami, before wrapping things up on December 15 in Atlanta, GA.
Acting as a pioneer for the hip-hop/electronic scene, DJ Shadow made a name for himself in the music industry with the release of his first album, Entroducing…, in 1996. Made entirely from other music samples, it was like nothing else that had come before, and was met with critical and commercial success. Now, 16 years later, the 40-year-old California native has six full-length albums under his belt, collaborations with artists like Thom Yorke and David Banner, and an immeasurable amount of respect in the DJ community.
