D.O.A. Saying Farewell
Canadian hardcore punk legends D.O.A. have announced their final & farewell concert tour, as well as the release of one more live album. With Joey “Shithead” Keithley as their front man – as it’s always been – these final D.O.A. tour dates are another landmark in the timeline of hardcore and punk. While Keithley has seen bandmates come and go – and come back again and go again – the significance of D.O.A. on the music scene has never waned, and D.O.A. concerts have always been a reminder the era they ushered in over thirty years ago.
Although the Hardcore ’81 album wasn’t this band’s first, it served as the bedrock for the hardcore punk insurgency of the early 1980s and gave fans something to call the fits of energy, aggression, and political enthusiasm also epitomized by bands such as Black Flag and The Germs. As the band went in and out of turmoil and ventured between states of reunion and utter chaos, their influence was never forgotten. D.O.A. tour dates from ten years ago may be fuzzy in the memories of many attendees, but the mark on their hometown of Vancouver will live on forever, as they had a day legally named in their honor by the city and industry that were shaped by them. While D.O.A. live performances will always be available via recording, this D.O.A. farewell tour is your last chance to see them first hand, in the flesh.
