It’s Electric! This Zoo Not Recommended For Children
Electric Zoo is back, and bigger than ever, for its fourth year. Widely recognized as NYC’s best electronic music festival, and quickly on its way to becoming one of the top electronic festivals in the United States, Electric Zoo will be held on Labor Day weekend (August 30-September 1st), on Randall’s Island (as it has been in the past years.) Randall’s island is an island (surprise!) just east of Manhattan and, as Time Out, so aptly put it, the festival “transforms Randall’s Island into an Ibiza on the East River every Labor Day.” Word. Last year, over 110,000 fans attended the event, which was sold-out on Saturday and Sunday. Luckily, Made Event (the festival organizers) knew, as everyone else should as well, that ecstasy and Labor Day heat can be a deadly combination. In addition to giving all concert-goers free water (why don’t all festivals do this??), they provided designated help points and encouraged attendees to look out for one another. In 2011, the festival also initiated a recycling program, started using 100% biodiesel fuel made from NYC fryer grease, and required that food vendors sell only organic, hormone-free, humanely raised animals.

Electric Zoo Festival 2013 Lineup
Electric Zoo is an electronic zoo (music festival), so expect big names on the electro-scene. With their new album out, Justice seems like a likely candidate, but Calvin Harris or up-and-coming Grimes would be great to hear. On the festival’s homepage there is a forum where attendees can request their favorite bands… democracy in action!… maybe…
