Hot on Heels of Faith No More, Mike Patton Resurrects Fantômas
Mike Patton, lead singer of 90’s rock band Faith No More, is about to get really busy. He’s recently announced plans for Faith No More to put out a new album (and a new tour) sometime next year, and now, he’s dusting off another of his projects—Fantômas, his group with Melvins’ Buzz Osborne, Slayer’s Dave Lombardo, and Mr. Bungle’s Trevor Dunn. The band hasn’t released an album since 2005’s Suspended Animation and hasn’t performed live together since 2009, but they’ve decided to get together at the RockOut Festival in Santiago, Chile on December 6. Also on the docket for RockOut Festival? Primus, DEVO, Thurston Moore, and well, many more. Tickets for that are available through the festival’s website. Will Fantômas add any more dates? That has yet to be seen due to Faith No More’s new revival, but when we hear it, you’ll hear it.
So who is Fantômas, anyway? He’s a fictional character created by Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre at the start of the 20th century. Fantômas is…well, a sociopath and a murderer who loves to kill people in all kinds of creative ways, from plague-infested rats to rooms that fill with sand. He’s a master of disguise, assuming different names and personas in order to fulfill his devious crimes.
