Nashville is one of the world’s great music capitals, hosting big-shots and strivers alike in a bubbling cauldron of creativity and commerce. But if you don’t get out and experience it, all of that is about as useful as a soup you can only smell.

Every weekend in Nashville brings new opportunities to see big-name acts play their hearts out in the music industry’s backyard. This weekend is no different. Everything from tender indie rock to country legends is on offer to close out the week. Check out some of our favorites below.

Soccer Mommy @ Mercy Lounge

Saturday, December 15 | 9PM

Nashville native Sophie Allison started Soccer Mommy as a solo project in her high-school bedroom. But rather than keeping it secret like so many stashed away journals, she uploaded the tracks to Bandcamp and saw them catch fire. The world was taken with her inward-looking and cutting tunes, leading up to a record deal, working with a full band and her first official full-length Clean. Catch her at this homecoming show to start your weekend off right.

Pet Envy @ The High Watt

Saturday, December 15 | 9 PM

If you want a hometown band who hasn’t been written up by Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, you could do worse than Pet Envy. These new-wave-loving pop-rockers are the perfect soundtrack for a Saturday night.

The Lone Bellow @ The Basement East

Saturday, December 15 | 9PM

The Lone Bellow’s members may have moved themselves to New York City, but the South lives on in their haunting sound. Dark, moody and straight-from-the-heart, like all classic art from below the Mason-Dixon, The Lone Bellow hit the spot for any city livers looking to get out among the oaks.

JD McPherson @ 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill

Sunday, December 16 | 8PM

Sometimes you just want to shuffle. And JD McPherson’s brand of retro-leaning rock and R&B is perfect for that. Anyone looking to sway a bit to some fuzzy blues and a powerful vocalist would be remiss to skip JD. Bonus points: He just dropped a Christmas album, if you’re looking to catch the spirit.

Amy Grant & Vince Gill @ Ryman Auditorium

Sunday, December 16 | 7:30PM

Two legends in their respective genres hit one of Nashville’s most-storied stages to close out the weekend. The married couple have made a point of playing Christmastime sets at the Ryman every year. Come for their spins on holiday classics, stay for the possibility of “Baby, Baby” and “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slipping Away.”
