Need Halloween Plans? Flaming Lips Playing in LA and San Fran
Flaming Lips Shows
In addition to candy and costumes, Californian fans of Flaming Lips have a concert (or two) to look forward to this Halloween. Along with Tame Impala and White Denim, Flaming Lips will be playing in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Flaming Lips, whose current members include Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins, Steven Drozd, Kliph Scurlock, and Derek Brown, was formed in Oklahoma City in 1983. Famous for their 1960s and 70s psychedelic rock associations, Flaming Lips has released thirteen studio albums including Terror, which debuted earlier this year. Winners of three Grammy awards, it’s no surprise that the band’s 2002 song “Do You Realize??” has garnered the attention of their home state. In 2009, Oklahoma state legislature announced that the song would become the official state rock song.
On 10/29, the band will be playing in Los Angeles at The Greek. The Greek was built in 1929 by native Angeleno S. Tilden Norton; he modeled it after a Greek temple—hence the name. The Flaming Lip Halloween show will take place in San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The venue, named after the famous concert promoter, has a 6,000 person seating capacity and hosts a variety of artists and concerts annually.
