UPDATE: Grammy Awards

Frank Ocean, who is tied with the likes of Jay-Z, The Black Keys, Kanye West, fun. and Mumford & Sons for the most Grammy nominations with six, has been added to the live performance lineup at the February 10 show.

What is a surprise is that he is still performing after the injuries he suffered in a brawl with Chris Brown this past Sunday night – injuries Ocean apparently will be pursuing charges against Brown for. The two are actually going up against each other for the best urban contemporary album award at this year’s Grammys.

At the time of the brawl, Ocean had tweeted: “Got jumped by Chris and a couple guys. Lol. I only wish [Ocean’s dog] Everest was there… Cut my finger now I can’t play with two hands at the Grammys.” (source: NME)

Frank Ocean had an interesting day today. First there was the news that he was busted on New Year’s Eve in California for three different violations – driving in excess of the speed limit (going 90 mph in a 60 mph zone); possession of an illegal substance (marijuana) and driving with a suspended license. He was released after police took away his license.

On another more exciting note, Frank Ocean revealed that a remix of his Channel Orange track “Pink Matter” will feature a renuion of rap royalty – Andre 3000 and Big Boi of Outkast. Appearing on a track together for the first time since 2010, the Atlanta Grammy-winning duo will also be heading into the studtio to collaborate on a remix of T.I.’s “Sorry.”

Could this mean a potential new album could be down the road? One can only hope. Big Boi did just release his new album Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors in December.

As for Ocean, Channel Orange was recently name the Best Album of 2012 in the United Kingdom.

If you haven’t heard of Frank Ocean, then you’ve still probably heard “Thinkin’ About You” pouring out of radios, car windows and late-night clubs. One of the several singles off his six-time Grammy-nominated album, Channel Orange, this is a classic early morning, late-night, mid-afternoon jam. Play it once and you’ll wanna play it again. Then play the rest of the album. Then go try to see him live.

Ocean started his musical career as a ghost writer for the likes of Justin Bieber, Brandy and John Legend. After moving to LA, post-Katrina, he met Tyler the Creator and joined the alternative hip-hop collective, Odd Future. Since the release and acclaim of Channel Orange, his first studio album, Ocean has risen to fame and become a household name. His music warrants the acclaim and he also gets ups for being one of the few openly gay hip-hop artists on the scene. Mad props, Frank.
