Artist to Watch: Gary Clark Jr.
UPDATE: Maverick Music Festival
Gary Clark Jr. is headlining a new festival after having been hitting the festival circuit hard over the past few years. From Hard Rock Calling in London to Bonnaroo in Nashville and Austin City Limits, he has been a staple and has been garnering steadily increasing acclaim for his live performances.
This past week it was announced that Clark Jr. would headline the new Maverick Music Festival in San Antonio, set to take place March 23 at the La Villita Historic Arts Village. The festival is actually organized by Clark and his management and will also feature The Toadies, Girl In A Coma, Arum Rae, and Henry & The Invisibles on the bill as well.
Tickets for the Maverick Music Festival cost $28 and are on sale now.
UPDATE
With his debut album “Blak & Blue” currently trending in the top 10 albums chart on iTunes and acclaim from critics’ reviews, Gary Clark Jr. has definitely been an artist to take note of – something we gave the heads up on way back in the first half of 2012.
The album has become one of the most anticipated albums of the year as Clark Jr. has been heralded as the next generation of blues, even a savior by some, given his ridiculous chops on the guitar. One needs to check him out live, which you can do as he is currently on tour across the United States (check out the links in our last update below).

UPDATE
With his debut full length solo album “Blak & Blu” set to be released on October 22, we wanted to provide an update on tour dates for one of the artists we featured this summer as one to definitely watch (see below). The next generation of the blues and a prolific guitarist, Gary Clark Jr., has been touring on the festival scene all summer long and now has some headlining gigs scheduled later this fall in between a September 2012 and January 2013 trek to Australia. Gary Clark Jr has been tearing up the blues scene for a while now and it’s only a matter of time before his guitar chops and slick sound hit the mainstream. The Austin-based musician and vocalist is currently touring the festival scene overseas but will hit the U.S. once again later in July for festival appearances.
Gary Clark Jr. – Bright Lights (Live)
His breakthrough performance was at the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival alongside B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Beck, and ZZ Top.
He released a 4 song EP back in August 2011, so hopefully he can release a full album of material in 2012 to showcase the skills he has.
