Ghostface Killah aka Tony Stark aka member of the Wu-Tang Clan will be releasing his 10th (!) studio album, 12 Reasons To Die, on April 16 on RZA’s Soul Temple Records. The project is a collaboration with soul producer Adrian Younge and is a concept album. As their press release explains the albums follows:
“…Tony Starks (one of Ghostface’s alter egos), as a soldier for the 12 Delucas, a 1960s-era Italian crime family. But when Starks leaves the family, an epic story unfolds like a vintage horror film with gangster elements. It’s a gritty story of good versus evil that walks the line of the supernatural accented by Ghostface’s grandiose, vivid storytelling.” Aka what every rap album should aspire to be.

If the latest track “The Sure Shot pt. I and II” that he just put out (which I’ve been listening to on repeat while writing this) is any indication – this album should be bumping. Ghostface’s classic flows over a stripped down beat, none of that electro bullsh*t (sorry Kanye), and then some ill piano chords kick in for the build up, as Ghostface raps, “Heart of the lion, king of the jungle, I’m a humble killer bee, you as soft as a bumble. I don’t crumble, I strike back hard with a vengeance.” That’s the rap I grew up on.

Ghostface and Younge are touring the U.S. extensively this spring in support of their album, so be sure to check out this rap godfather while he’s still going strong.
