Green Day Gear Up for Massive North American Concert Series
After releasing not one, not two, but THREE new albums at once, Greenday has just announced their plans to travel to SXSW. At the Austin-based festival they’ll not only perform the new tunes, but will premiere their documentary, “Broadway Idiot,” which chronicles the making of their broadway show American Idiot. The doc will be screened at the Paramount Theater, as well as “¡Cuatro!,” which shows the making of the aforementioned new music. After that, they’ll perform as part of the ACL Live series a the Moody Theater. We wonder what’s next for this band. Perhaps tap dancing? Clothing line? Perfume?
Previous News: Optimus Alive Portugal
With a tour of the United States and Europe this Spring & Summer already in the plans, Green Day are also starting to put together some summer festival plans in Europe. Along with Django Django, Kings of Leon, Of Monsters & Men and Depeche Mode, the band has been added to the 2013 lineup of Portugal’s Optimus Alive festival.
Optimus Alive is a music and arts festival which takes place in the Algés riverside, in Oeiras, Portugal. The first edition took place in 2007 and has become extremely popular across the continent over the past six years.
Set to take place July 12 through July 14, the three-day festival has tickets on sale now. Check out the link above to the festival website for more details.
Continuing with the theme of exciting (good) Green Day news, the rockstars recently announced an opening act for their rescheduled tour dates: Best Coast (who had previously agreed to the gig before the punk group canceled several shows). The Wikipedia-described “surf-pop” band from LA will hit the road with Billie Joe and the rest of the Green Day crew this coming March.
Best Coast: “Our Deal”
It’s a happy New Year’s indeed for fans of punk-rockers Green Day, who, after canceling a string of shows earlier this fall, have just released new 2013 tour dates. The group had paused their North American tour after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checked himself into rehab following a very public meltdown at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in September. Now, things are back on the up-and-up for the singer who says he’s “feeling better every day.”

Although the band has traveled a bumpy road while promoting their album trilogy Uno! Dos! Tre! – from Billie Joe’s struggle with substance abuse to canceled tour dates – Green Day continue to promotionally move ahead. The latest news from the punk rockers has them filming a documentary slated for next year. According to Rolling Stone,Quatro! will follow the group as they write and tour in support of their latest records. VH1 will air a sneak preview of the doc this Wednesday (November 28). No theatrical release date has been set, although the last album in Green Day’s trilogy, Tre!, is set to drop December 11.
It’s not the same as seeing the group live on tour, but it’s still great news for fans: Green Day have made the second album, Dos!, off their Uno! Dos! Tre! trilogy available for streaming. The release officially drops November 13.
Head on over to Rolling Stone for the exclusive listen!
After first canceling an appearance at this past weekend’s Voodoo Experience music festival, Green Day have officially postponed a slew of upcoming tour dates. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is currently undergoing treatment for substance abuse, with his bandmates citing his well-being as their main concern. Affected dates include all those scheduled for late November and early December, while the band’s 2013 arena tour with Best Coast has also been postponed.
Be sure to check back here for all updates on Green Day’s rescheduled shows.
Green Day has announced Best Coast will join them as support on the road for their upcoming 2013 tour. The Cali duo will open for the seminal punk band from January-February. Check out which cities the pair plans to hit up, or click here for the full list of Green Day’s 2012-2013 tour dates.

With a whopping eight albums and one hit Broadway show already checked off their career To Do list, an epic three-part record is clearly the next logical step for punk rockers Green Day. And, practically speaking, so is a massive North American tour to support the first release of the trilogy, ¡Uno!. For four months this fall and winter, Green Day will visit venues throughout the US and Canada, kicking things off in late November at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre, before going out with a glitzy bang at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas February 2.

Younger fans and pop enthusiasts familiar with Green Day’s American Idiot album, their 2004 “comeback” following disappointing record sales of 2000’s Warning, may be unaware the snot-core rockers have been pounding heads and pricking the country’s social conscience for over 30 years. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool got their start in Berkeley’s hardcore punk scene in the late ’80s before their breakout record, Dookie, brought them fame and a wider fan base in 1994. Three decades later, the trio is still going strong, with the rock trilogy ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! set to drop in successive releases this September, November and January. We’ve got a few ticket links to Green Day’s upcoming shows now, but check back here when more tickets to the band’s NA trek become available.
