Best Halloween 2014 Concerts in Boston
Umphrey’s McGee with Dopapod @ House of Blues
Umphrey’s McGee is one of the biggest acts in the jam/prog-rock scene, and Dopapod are coming up swiftly behind them. Both bands have been known to throw down for their Halloween shows, so come dressed up to this one!
Brother Ali with Bambu @ Middle East Downstairs
Everybody’s favorite albino underground rapper is taking his “Home Away From Home” tour to Boston for Halloween. The peaceful Islamic activist will be joined by Bambu as an opener. Hopefully nobody dresses in a tasteless ISIS costume.
Goldfish with Eno @ The Sinclair
If you’ve never heard of Goldfish, they’re an electronic dance group from Cape Town (that’s South Africa, not Cape Cod, Massholes). Let’s give these boys a friendly U.S. welcome and show them how we celebrate Halloween.
Hozier with James Bay @ Paradise Rock Club
If you’re looking for a more low-key evening, check out Hozier at Paradise Rock Club. The intimate venue is the perfect setting to enjoy the 24-year-old singer/songwriter, plus you can bust our your sexy librarian costume for the night.
Dead-O-Ween ft. Playin’ Dead @ Church
This show is a day after Halloween, but we sooo couldn’t leave it out. Playin’ Dead is one of the best Grateful Dead tribute bands out there, so join them at Church for a night of tunes from the seminal jam band. You won’t be able to tell the difference between dressed up people and old hippies!
Halloween Costume Ideas
It’s been a good year so far for pop culture in 2014. Well, I guess that depends on how you define “good.” While we’ve certainly had some low points–wars, diseases, domestic disputes–we’ve also had high points. Facebook finally found a positive purpose with viral fundraising videos, and between pop power couples and new Disney films, we have a whole new repertoire of songs to karaoke to. Needless to say, we drew a little bit of inspiration from everywhere for our 2014 Halloween costume ideas.
1. Slutty Frozen Costume
“Let it goooo, let it gooo!” Your inhibitions that is. Let it all hang out in the myriad of sluttified Frozen costumes, including everybody’s favorite snowman, Olaf.
2. Miley Cyrus & the Hotdog She Rode in On
Say what you want about Miley, but the chick rode a hotdog. While singing live. In a yellow fur coat. There are sooo many potential Miley costumes inspired by her Bangerz tour, but we just couldn’t get over how funny it would be to have your beau follow you around dressed like a wiener all night. 3. Jay Z & Beyonce
Despite breakup rumors and elevator fisticuffs, Beyonce and Jay Z remain raps power couple. The two even shared the stage for this year’s “On the Run” tour, and Bey was just as awe-inspiring in her outfits as Miley. Plus, there’s this available online (sadly, only in the UK). 4. Ice Bucket Challenge
Mark my words: this will be the biggest Halloween costume in 2014. A spinoff on the ol’ lamp and table outfit we’ve all come to know and love, this year will be filled with party goers awkwardly bumping into walls with an empty bucket over their head, with the hashtag #ALSChallenge written across it. Or, people will just walk around sopping wet.
5. The Ebola Virus
Another fun development this year was the return of the Ebola virus. And it seems the disease has made its way to the U.S. just in time for Halloween festivities. The outfit is simple: just wear a bowl on your head, and when people ask you what you are, answer in an Italian accent: “Imma’ Bowla!”
