The success of Imagine Dragons of late has been nothing short of exponential. While they draw comparisons to indie darlings Matt & Kim and The Lumineers, their hooky, anthem-friendly alt-rock sound should not be entirely unfamiliar to fans of mainstream standbys like OneRepublic and Goo Goo Dolls, and previous flavors of the week The Fray and Snow Patrol.
Indie fans may bristle, but the short of it is that Imagine Dragons has an incredibly marketable sound that has easily contributed to how familiar their name is getting. The Vegas-based band formed in 2008, and after a couple line-up changes and early EP’s, they signed on with Interscope in late 2011. Their single “It’s Time” hit #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, holds a record for the longest run on the 2012 Alternative Top 10 Charts, and has since gone double platinum (RIAA) and gold (ARIA). Their first full studio album Night Visions, released in September of 2012, has only confirmed that they are not one hit wonders. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200, and their second single “Radioactive” has been #1 on a slew of charts and in a number of international markets. Both Billboard and Amazon.com have credited them as one of the top rock acts of the year.
Imagine Dragons is currently in the midst of a jam-packed touring season, and are slated to appear at a number of summer festivals, including Hangout, Sasquatch! and Lollapalooza. Essentially, if you haven’t heard of them yet, it’s only a matter of time before you’re hearing them everywhere.
