Isle of Wight Festival Promises Stone Roses & More in 2013
The Isle of Wight Festival, the legendary British music festival, will turn 45 (sort of) in 2013, and it’s celebrating with a very British lineup: Skewing mostly rock and pop, its biggest story is arguably snagging the elusive Stone Roses, who’ll headline the second night in June. Also slated are UK acts like Ellie Goulding, Bloc Party and Paloma Faith. Repping the American contingent are headliners The Killers and Bon Jovi, as well as Blondie, Fun., and Bonnie Raitt.

Did you know? In 1970, the festival’s third installation drew a crowd massive enough for Parliament to pass the “Isle of Wight Act,” which caps public gatherings on the island at 5,000 persons, after which a license is required. Despite the apex in popularity, the event was discontinued for a solid 30 years, and has only been back in business since 2002. You can catch a glimpse of what leant the 1970 concert its mythic status at the bottom of this post, where The Who’s set is playing in full.
