Jenny Hval will tour behind her gorgeous, soft new album The Practice of Love in 2020. The musician and author, whose last effort was the vampire-schlock meets menstrual art meditation Blood Bitch, will play a select few dates in the US in support of her latest turn.

Hval explained why she intentionally moved into mellower territory with her latest in an interview with The Fader.

“I was also tired of how my work was read as provocative, and I wanted to do something really soft. It seems like being political, even if you’re anti-capitalist, is a commercial potential because you can interpret it as aggressive,” she said. “I really craved a soft place, and that’s why I went into a natural landscape — not necessarily a place to hide, but a place to see the world as a more creative place.”

She’ll bring that vibe stateside starting with two Chicago shows in April. Following the two sets at Constellation, she’ll head to Toronto’s Longboat Hall ahead of back-to-back shows at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust. She jumps to the West Coast just two days later with a show at Bob Baker’s Marionette Theater in Los Angeles. The tour closes shortly thereafter with a show at Seattle’s Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall.
