Keane Crossing the Pond to Play Shows in the United States
UK-based rockers Keane are coming back to the States for a winter tour. Kicking off on January 8 in Portland, OR, the U.S. jaunt will span 17 cities throughout the month of January and see the band in such cities as Kansas City, Nashville, Burlington, and Portland. The fun wraps up on January 31, with a New Year’s Eve show at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. Youngblood Hawke will act as support on the tour for the majority of the dates.
Although they formed in 1997, Keane did not achieve mainstream success until the release of their debut album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. The album went on to become the second best-selling British record of the year, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 45 in the US. Their later albums followed suit, with the most recent, Strangeland, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart when it was released earlier this year. Keane’s music falls under the category of alternative-indie rock, and they’re known for their use of strong pianos blended with electronic and synth sounds. They have cited artists like Rufus Wainwright, U2 and Talking Heads as influences.
