Kendrick Lamar to Headline U.S. Festivals After Touring Europe
UPDATE: Late January 2013
Kendrick Lamar, “aka Benz is to me just a car” (or some he raps on his verse in “F*ckin Problems”) has been having a good year. His major label debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city dropped in October 2012, and had the highest first-week hip hop album sales of 2012 (from a male artist), as well as the best-selling debut of the year (from a male artist). The album was also lauded by critics, with Pitchfork’s Jayson Greene giving it a 9.5/10 and praising its “dazzling lyrical virtuosity, slick quotables, (and) pulverizing beats.” Due to its release date, the album is not technically eligible for any 2013 Grammys, but would/will (it better!) be nominated in the 2014 season.
So what is Kendrick up to now? You ask? After finishing up his stint on BET’s “Music Matters” tour, he headed to Europe where he played to packed crowds in London. From there, he’ll travel through Germany, France and Scandinavian, before returning to the United States to headline the Snowball Music Festival. He’ll also be in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and is scheduled to play at the Governors Ball Music Festival in June in New York. Stay tuned, though, as with this much hype he’s likely to be playing more U.S. festivals and shows come springtime…!

He doesn’t even have a debut album out yet, and already Kendrick Lamar’s recent tour announcement is generating buzz. The Compton-born rapper is scheduled to headline the most recent installment of BET’s “Music Matters” tour for a 23-city lineup beginning this September.
The timing is less than incidental, as Lamar’s much-anticipated major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d. city, is slated to drop in October. Known for independently releasing 2011’s Section.80, as well as for working with several Big Deal Name artists – Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne, for a sampling – K.Dot promises fans will get even more than what they pay for.
“More than a hip-hop show, it’s an experience worth a lifetime,” he humbly offers. To see whether Lamar is worth the hype, self-proclaimed or otherwise, check if he’ll be stopping by a city near you:
