Lauryn Hill Announces First Post-Prison Show
Lauryn Hill Tour
Lauryn Hill is back, folks! After being released from the clink about two months ago (she served three months in jail for tax evasion, stemming from charges she “forgot” to pay taxes on about a mil worth of her earnings), Hill is ready to return to the stage – although she does have to serve an additional three months in “home confinement”. The venue? New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on November 27 (a nice pre-Thanksgiving treat!), playing both early and late shows. Wanna go? Tickets are on sale now, so get them while you can. In the meantime, you can listen to Hill’s new tune, entitled “Consumerism”, that she shared via her SoundCloud on the eve of her release from prison.
It’s hard to believe that, given how long she’s been a public figure, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is Hill’s only solo studio album. Released in 1998, it has sold over eight million copies in the United States alone and launched singles like “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Ex-Factor,” and “Everything is Everything.” It also won five Grammys that year, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Hill has attempted to revive her work with her original group, the Fugees, to not much success. Hill continues to be critical of societal institutions as well as most of pop culture, and she channels these feelings through her work.
