Mac DeMarco is an incredibly talented boon to the algorithm. The slack-pop star makes perfect music to accommodate certain moods. He’s the indie-rock equivalent of “lo-fi beats to chill/study to,” reliably cranking out slabs of drifting, hazy guitar pop to soundtrack days full of not much at all.

His skill with the guitar allows him to get hallucinatory, but he rarely falls down the rabbit hole into full-blown psychedelia. His brand is more akin to the purplish afterimage the sun leaves on your vision than some heavy metal panel van tableau.

DeMarco just announced that he’s hitting the road in 2019 in support of a new album, his first since 2017’s This Old Dog. After performing both weeks of Coachella, DeMarco will hang around the West Coast for shows at Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and Sacramento’s Ace of Spades. Following a European leg, he’ll return to the States for a run of dates down the East Coast at venues like DC’s The Anthem and Philly’s Franklin Music Hall. Mac will take some breaks but the planned tour has him running from April to October, closing out at Red Rocks.
