Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers, is one of the most heralded indoor concert venues in the United States, having staged shows from a laundry list of music icons and legends.
Some of the more notable concert highlights at the venue include the following: 1971 – George Harrison’s The Concert for Bangladesh 1972 – four sold out performances from Elvis Presley 1977 – Led Zeppelin plays four sold out shows 1984 – Duran Duran rocks the house with two sold out concerts 1988 – Madison Square Garden called the Michael Jackson show on March 3, 1988 the greatest in the venue’s history 2001 – The Concert for New York City 2006 – Billy Joel plays 12 shows at MSG, the longest run by any artist in history 2012 – Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert
Elton John holds the record for number of concerts held at Madison Square Garden with 62. Other bands that have played MSG a considerable amount of times include Grateful Dead (52) and Phish (27).
This spring and summer, the concert calendar has some big shows on the docket – Fleetwood Mac visits MSG on April 8; Alicia Keys on April 11; Eric Clapton and his Crossroads Festival comes to town on April 13 and April 14 followed by Muse on April 15 and April 16.
