Marshall Tucker Band Tour

Southern rock veterans with over 40 years in the business, The Marshall Tucker Band has announced a 2014 “Take the Highway” tour that will take them across the country over the first half of the new year. Beginning with four shows in Hawaii in early January, the first Marshall Tucker Band concerts in the lower 48 will take place in Greensboro & Charlotte, North Carolina, on January 30 & 31, respectively. From there, the tour will live up to its name and the band will wind all over the US highways. Some notables destinations include a two-day stay in Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel & Casino on March 7 & 8, the Borland Center in Palm Beach, FL, on March 28, and three California county fairs in Victorville (May 26), Merced (June 12), and San Mateo (June 14).

In the band’s time together, the lineup has changed a bit as certain members have left for other projects or, sadly, when original bassist Tommy Caldwell passed away in a 1980 auto accident. One person who’s never been in the band is Marshall Tucker, who is instead a piano tuner from the band’s hometown of Spartanburg, SC; in their earliest days, they came across the name at the space in which they were rehearsing and it stuck. After releasing their self-titled LP in 1973, the band rode the wave of Southern rock’s popularity with hits including “Can’t You See,” “Heard It in a Love Song,” and “Last of the Singing Cowboys.” They often collaborated with the legendary Charlie Daniels and played hundreds of shows year after year, earning the reputation of true good ol’ boys who worked hard for their success. In the early 1990s, as the band moved to a more country sound, Garth Brooks helped write the title track on their 1993 release, Walk Outside the Lines, a move which helped illustrate the band’s influence over the years. Even as the band has aged, they continue to tour with an energy and ethic that keeps fans coming back for more; expect to see very few empty seats at these first 33 shows as they “Take the Highway” in 2014. More dates are on the way, and we’ll keep you updated with the latest details as they are released!
