Mastodon know their way around a concept. Whenever the modern metal legends focus their talents on telling a specific story, they come up with something incredible.

Their Moby Dick-based album Leviathan is one of the best metal releases this century and 2009’s Crack The Skye manages to propel readers through a story about traveling via astral planes that could have easily gone off the rails.

The band are celebrating the 10th anniversary of that inter-dimensional rager by joining equally high-concept Coheed and Cambria on tour. Much as they did in 2009, they will perform the album in full. The groups will be joined by Every Time I Die for the trek that runs from late May to early July.

The trek begins at Louisville’s Iroquois Amphitheater on May 28, before heading down to Mastodon’s hometown of Atlanta and then back up the East Coast for stops in Pittsburgh, New York and Boston. The tour heads west for stops at Denver’s Fillmore and Salt Lake City’s The Great Saltair. After a stint in California, the bands finish up with shows in Austin and Irving on July 2 and 3.
