Matchbox Twenty to Promote ‘North’ Down Under
Nineties nostalgia addicts, prepare for your latest jolt of Gen X redux: Rob Thomas and co., otherwise known as Matchbox Twenty (formally known as the more succinct Matchbox 20), are back on the scene with a new album and tour. North, scheduled to drop August 31, will be the band’s first release since 2007’s Exile On Mainstream, and the musicians’ first album of all-new material in over a decade. To celebrate, the group will perform a series of Australian shows this coming fall.

The members of Matchbox Twenty were at the forefront of post Slacker-era pop-rock, generating such radio mainstays as “Real World,” “3 AM,” and one of the finer collaborations of either millenium, “Smooth” with Carlos Santana. Aussie national icons INXS will join the aging but still successful rockers – who seem to have lost their eyeliner, if not their way with a chorus hook – throughout the duration of their 2012 October-November tour.
