The Mickey Hart Band, fronted by the eponymous “rhythm devil” himself, has announced a slew of US tour dates in May. This is the second leg of their Worlds Within Tour, which has and will continue to feature the African Showboyz as their main opener. The band will kick it off with an appearance at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte on May 8th, followed by stops at Stage 48 in New York on the 10th, Paradise Rock Club in Boston on the 19th and the Westcott Theater in Syracuse on the 22nd. They wraps things up on the 24th at the Dark Star Jubilee festival in Thornville, OH.

Former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart formed the band in 2011 with vocalists Crystal Monee and Tim Hockenberry and guitarist Gawain Matthews. Hart described his new band mates to Rolling Stone as “the right people to be able to dance with these cosmic sounds.” While the setlist includes mixes of Dead classics like “Casey Jones,” “Fire on the Mountain” and “Scarlet Begonias,” the Mickey Hart Band is not just a cover band, and Deadheads should find an easy symbiosis with the new material. “If something has a vibration,” Hart explained, “it has a sound. It’s just a matter of sampling that vibration and bringing it into the realm of sound.” If that explanation resonates with you at all, then you’re probably already a fan or should be.
