In NYC we are used to paying ridiculous prices for goods, but sometimes it becomes too much. When the $6 beer becomes a $10 beer at “Club [insert random one syllable noun like chair, home, couch, screen, etc.]” or a $12 movie ticket becomes a $20 ticket with promises of another dimension. Is the same thing happening now with expensive concert tickets? Are concert tickets in NYC becoming TOO expensive? More importantly, is an upcoming show in NYC in October from one music legend going to be the most expensive concert ever? Let’s look at the data…

SeatGeek has “trend-tracked” concert tickets since our inception in September 2009 at TechCrunch 50 (the predecessor to Disrupt). Over the years(s)- we will be two years old tomorrow – we have documented the most expensive concert tickets for this summer, summer 2010, and prices by generation [INFOGRAPHIC]. We have even looked at the most demanded venues, but through all this analysis what we have never seen are concert ticket prices over $1,000…until now!

Tickets for Sting’s 60th birthday party in NYC are going for $1073.83 – 37% more expensive than previous high over the last 2 years.

As it stands right now, this is the most expensive concert we have ever seen at SeatGeek.

There is still time for prices to come down, so we will continue to track this event to see if it holds on to the infamous(?) title of being the most expensive concert in the history of SeatGeek.
