Nas to Release ‘Illmatic XX’ 20th Anniversary Edition, Tour
It’s been twenty years since Queens, New York City-born rapper Nas released his debut album, Illmatic, and to commemorate the occasion, well, he’s releasing it again. The remastered Illmatic XX will drop on April 15, only four years short of the exact 20th anniversary of its first release. Along with the original album, Illmatic XX will include a disc of demos, remixes, and unreleased recordings from that time in Nas’ career, and it’s available to pre-order right now on iTunes. Nas also has plans this year for a documentary called, Time is Illmatic. To celebrate these major milestones, he will be hitting the road. The only confirmed dates on his roster so far are March 28 and 29 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA, but expect more tour announcements to be made in the coming weeks.
Born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, Nas is the son of jazz musician Olu Dara. Along with artists such as Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, and the Wu Tang Clan, he is responsible for the creation and perfecting of the East Coast rap genre. He’s sold over 25 million records worldwide and issued eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums.
